Reiki and Meditation during Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a momentous time in any woman's life. She is full of joy at the prospect of bringing forth a new life, but also filled with fear for the baby growing inside. Mothers-to-be have a lot to cope with during pregnancy, including all body changes that take place, such as morning sickness, excessive tiredness, indigestion and back ache; all of which can cause a lot of discomfort. These can all be alleviated with the use of Reiki.

Reiki can also support the woman emotionally during this time of upheaval.

Giving Reiki treatment is also a way for fathers-to-be to become more involved with the pregnancy, and to help them bond with the unborn child in a different way. Like a mother, he must face the responsibility of being a parent, and her must also come to terms with the fact that his relationship with his partner will change to some degree, as they both make room in it for a child.

After a few regular sessions with Reiki Practitioner, mother-to-be may choose to practice self-treatment until post pregnancy.

Treatments during pregnancy and labour

Throughout the pregnancy, the mother should give her self-treatment every day to relax and stay calm, as the thought process of a mother defines that of the baby. Its important for the mother to think positive, wise and not let daily life worries trouble her. Self-treatment helps mother stay at ease, however it is important to have a first few sessions from a certified Reiki practitioner. Or have all sessions from a Reiki specialist for best results. She should ask the practitioner to focus on specific areas of discomfort.

Meditation during pregnancy

A pregnant woman must learn the art of meditation under an experienced teacher.
  • Practice meditation regularly and preferably at the same time every day. (early morning is the best time for this)
  • Sit with your spine straight and erect. Read more about meditation here.
  • A mantra like AUM, Soham, or a Gurumantra can be used as an object of meditation. Its power lies in its vibrations when uttered verbally or mentally.
  • Practice for about 8 to 10 minutes initially. You can extend your time later on as per your need and capacity.
  • Inhale fresh air.
  • Focus on the movement of belly in-and-out with each breath.
  • Have an experienced trainer mentor you, at least to start with.
